On 12 June I’ll be speaking at the CPC London Summit The Perfect Storm: the Forces Driving Change in Consultancy Procurement. We are delighted to be hosting this event at our London offices in Finsbury Square, where we’ll be discussing the key challenges you face around procurement - offering formal presentations, breakout sessions and the opportunity for peer-to-peer networking.

At this event, I’ll be speaking about the cyber risks around procurement, focusing on three key areas:

  • Insider threats: This is a key security concern for all organisations and IBM have previously estimated it to be a factor in 60% of cyber breaches. It can be a particular issue when working with third parties or contractors, due to risks around remote working or a lack of awareness of company security policies. Short term contracts may also increase the risk of corporate espionage or data theft.

We will explore how procurement teams can embed effective cyber security practices to reduce these risks, while promoting lasting relationships with partner organisations and consultants.

  • Ransomware: While there has been a drop in the number of ransomware attacks over the last year, it remains big business. The majority of incidents our clients experience are either ransomware or phishing - and procurement teams are juicy targets due to the amount of sensitive personal data and corporate information they hold.

We will discuss how to avoid a ransomware attack, what to do if you are affected and how to protect your data.

  • Patch management: WannaCry remains one of the most devastating ransomware attacks in the UK and is estimated to have cost the NHS alone £92m. But the vulnerability was known and could have been avoided by maintaining an effective patch management process.

We will examine the role of patch management as part of a cohesive cyber security framework, and guide you through our three stranded approach to effective patch management.
